Standard or Tall? Which size to choose

These bands are our own sizing guide, not a formal standard. Leg and back length vary between people of the same height, so if you are close to 188 cm, do the two-step test below. If you are under 178 cm, the Standard (84cm) Walnut lounge chair & ottoman is the better fit. Ivory leather is offered in the Tall edition only; the Standard comes in white, black, brown or tan.

The sitting-height home test (2 steps)

1. Measure your knee height. Sit on a firm dining chair with your feet flat and your thighs level. Measure from the floor to the crease behind your knee.
2. Measure your sitting height. Sit upright against a wall and measure from the seat to the top of your head.

Both sizes have a 42 cm (16.5 in) seat height. The Tall is 93 cm (36.6 in) overall. The Standard is 84 cm (33 in) overall.

Prefer a quicker check? Use a chair where your head or neck is properly supported - a recliner, a car seat, or your current lounge chair. Measure from the seat surface to the top of the backrest or headrest that supports you. On our Standard (84cm) that distance is 42 cm. If the chair that supports you properly measures clearly more than that, the Tall is likely the better match.

No dangling heels: the ottoman check

When you lean back, your heels should rest on the ottoman cushion, not hang off its far edge. The Tall comes with its own larger ottoman, 66 cm wide and 55 cm deep, and it is free-standing, so you choose the gap. Taller sitters usually pull it a little further from the chair.

To check at home, sit back with your legs straight out and measure from the front edge of the seat to your heels. Place the ottoman so that point lands in the middle of its cushion.

• Shell: 7-layer laminated walnut veneer, pressure-formed to resist cracking and warping
• Upholstery: soft ivory-cream Italian aniline leather, dyed through rather than surface-coated, so the grain stays visible and the leather softens with age
• Cushions: hand-sewn, with welted piped edges and dense fire-retardant foam filling; removable and reversible
• Shell joints: rubber shock mounts between the shell segments, so the back and arms flex slightly as you settle in
• Swivel: 360 degrees
• Base: Black aluminium with polished edges - 5-star (chair), 4-star (ottoman)

Warmer than pure white and easier to live with; sits naturally with oak, walnut and linen.

UK fire safety

Fire safety: the foam in our cushions passed the UK crib 5 ignitability test (BS 5852 Part 2:1982, Schedule 1 Part I of the 1988 Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations) at SGS. Test documentation available on request.

Care

• Leather: wipe with a damp cloth and condition with leather balm every 6 months. Ivory aniline has no protective topcoat, so blot spills straight away.
• Walnut veneer: dust with a soft dry cloth and keep out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.
• Base: clean with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately
• Cushions: rotate periodically for even wear
