Mid-century style dining chairs from £95 — DSW and DAW moulded shells, tulip chairs and leather dining seating. Most are sold in sets of two, so you can build up to the number your table needs.
Start with your table height
This is the measurement that decides whether a dining chair works. Our dining chairs sit at a 44–45cm seat height, which suits standard UK dining tables of 74–76cm and leaves roughly 30cm of thigh clearance. If your table is taller than 78cm, or has a deep apron underneath, measure the gap before ordering.
Arms or no arms
- DSW style (W47 × D53 × H83cm) — armless. Narrow enough to seat more people around the same table, and it tucks fully underneath when not in use.
- DAW style (W63 × D50 × H82cm) — with arms. More comfortable for long meals, but the 63cm width means fewer chairs fit around a given table, and the arms may not clear a low apron.
- Tulip style (W48 × D50 × H85cm) — armless with a cushioned seat and a slightly higher 45cm seat.
How many will fit?
Allow about 60cm of table edge per person. A 140cm table seats four armless DSW chairs comfortably, or four DAW chairs at a squeeze. Leave 75cm behind each chair so people can get in and out.
Materials
Moulded polypropylene shells wipe clean and cope well with family use. Solid wood legs with a wire cross-brace give the classic silhouette. Leather dining chairs look richer but need more care around food.
